Adolescence

Analysis of the Qur’an reveals several details about Noah’s experience that confirm the passage of humanity into the age of adolescence. Noah was made famous for the ark he built.

We learn, among other things, that despite the long life he has known he never deviated from the directives emanating from his creator, thus showing great will. This is a fact which proves an evolution from Adam.

Noah spared no effort to guide his people in the way of the Creator. He did it night and day, sometimes aloud and sometimes in a low voice and sometimes in public. There is no doubt that it is during adolescence that the social dimension becomes important.

However, despite his best efforts and determination, few were the people who deigned to follow suit. Even his wife and his son denigrated him. Faced with the fierce refusal of his people, especially the richest, Noah prayed to his creator to exterminate the disbelievers, which he did, hence the story of the ark which served to save believers. Noah believed that this would put an end to disbelief. This is a clear sign that humanity is in its teens since at this age humans do not yet have the knowledge necessary to make a clear distinction between subject and notion. The physical elimination of disbelievers does not mean that the notion of disbelief disappears.

Another event that confirms Noah’s teenage age is his request to the Creator to save his disbelieving son from the floods of the Flood. The Creator did not answer his prayer. He explained to her that his son is not part of his family because the attitude he adopted in rejecting his message constitutes a perverse action. Noah’s request is explained by the blood relationship he had with his son and we know how much during adolescence the family fiber remains alive.
